Sailed from Seattle to Ports of Juneau, Sitka, Katchikan, Glacier Bay, and Victoria, British Columbia...

Holland America MS Amsterdam

How ironic, this ship is the newest MS Amsterdam replacing the one we sailed on 11 years ago on our honeymoon to the Western Carabbean.  The same captain on both cruises...small world.

As we pull into Juneau...

Mendenhall Glacier - Juneau, AK - this looks like a postcard.

Helicopter we took to glacier for dogsledding.

View from the helicopter as we head for the musher camp on the glacier.

alaska74.jpg
There is the musher camp as seen from the helicopter.

Kathy waves from the dogsled. What a fun adventure...once in a lifetime.

alaska103.jpg
Beautiful views as we spent the day cruising around Glacier Bay.

alaska120.jpg
Just can't get enough pictures of those amazing glaciers. This one is fairly close.

alaska180.jpg
Sitka is a quaint little fishing community. It is very picturesque.

alaska197.jpg
This port we had to anchor & take a tender to shore. Our ship from the tender.

alaska219.jpg
We found the bears are very friendly in Alaska...after he got Ronnie's Beatles cap..

1920's mural on side of building as we docked in Juneau.

While in port in Juneau, we took a tram up Mt. Roberts for a great view of the city below.

The Red Dog Saloon in Juneau, AK...always a line to get into this place, but it is worth the wait.

A beautiful 40 degree sunny day on the glacier...

alaska89.jpg
Vistas on the return helicopter flight after a few hours dogsledding on the glacier. WOW!

alaska94.jpg
They call it Glacier Bay for a very good reason, glaciers are everywhere.

One more glacier...
alaska126.jpg
Large chunks of ice calve off the glacier & sound like a gunshot as they break off & hit the water.

alaska189.jpg
Bald Eagle sits on the pier in center of photo as we sail past. Eagles area all over Alaska.

alaska214.jpg
Ketchikan is a logging & fishing town. This is a logging show we watched.

alaska220.jpg
In Ketchikan there is a tunnel under a house that serves no particular purpose other than a photo.

We were very fortunate that the weather was clear and mostly sunny during our week long cruise. You can see how clouds were hanging overhead in some of the photos.  In Alaska, the weather changes quickly and it rains more than the sun shines.  So, we were very glad to have good weather.
