Plymouth Rock...circa 1620
This old rock is part of our history and it just sits
on the beach with a date stamp. Located just south of Boston.
Many areas of interest are easy driving distance, such as Boston Harbor, Cape Cod, Martha’s
Vineyard, the USS Constitution, Salem, Mayflower II, Plymouth; several Ivy League Universities such as Harvard, MIT, Yale
(in Connecticut, but easy drive)…just to name a few places.
From Boston
we headed north starting our road trip covering the six New England states...
First stop was Kennebunkport, Maine. This is a quaint little oceanside
city where the Bush family summer home is located on the point overlooking the bay.
Neat little shops, cafes and seaside restaurants cover the main part of this little town. This was one of my very favorite cities on our trip. We spent
a couple of days in Kennebunkport and could have stayed longer,
but we know the winter sets in and probably not a good place to be that time of year.
We always thought Ft. Knox was in Kentucky…well, the one with all the money is
in Kentucky. But
we visited the original Ft. Knox in Maine, built in 1844.

LIGHT HOUSES ALL OVER NEW ENGLAND... |
Farther
north in Maine
is the seaside town of Bar Harbor with lots of little
shops (we went into every one of them!)
We ate at some really neat restaurants …and
you would think we had plenty of Maine lobster…well, not for this couple who don’t do seafood unless it looks
and tastes like chicken! One neat place we ate "chicken" was Geddy’s on
the bay.
|
This is what they eat in New England... |
...but this is what a lobster should look like! |
|
We then headed inland west through Bangor, MA and into New
Hampshire. There was not much to see and do on the
route we took through NH, but we found the first Walmart of the trip.
Not many Starbucks, but plenty of Dunkin Donuts (on every corner!)
throughout New England.
When in Vermont, you can’t miss going to the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory.

When in the neighborhood, you MUST stop and visit the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory... |

Only in Maine do you get a "Lobster" buzzer when your table is ready! |
After one night in NH, we headed into Vermont where we toured the Rock of Ages Granite
Quarry…very interesting.
|
The Rock of Ages Granite Quarry in Barre, Vermont...VERY INTERESTING... |
Our road trip ended with the smallest
state of Rhode Island, and
we spent the night. Then on to Martha’s Vineyard the next day.
DID YOU KNOW...
at
high tide, Rhode Island is half it's actual size! ...LOL
After driving
through Vermont, we headed south into Massachusetts again and then on to Connecticut where we stayed
at a nice little resort in the woods and visited Yale University. This was my very favorite of
the ivy league universities we visited.

HANGING OF BRIDGET BISHOP - SALEM IN 1692 |
Salem is just north of Boston
where there were 14 teenage girls and 5 men hung after being accused of witchcraft. This was hardly the case.
Seems a couple of young girls made up the story to keep from getting into trouble... How could you live with that terrible
event.

Ronnie at the helm of the USS Constitution...! |
Mayflower II... |

Hard to imagine 120 people traveled across the Atlantic Ocean in this little vessle in the year 1620 |
